to help businesses utilize empty spaces, using digital media to showcase artists collaborations
Empty Space Project is about bringing people together to collaborate and use what they have. Founded in 2018 by Daemon Palmer and Khalil Malik, the idea was birthed from the need to create in an empty classroom while it was renovated to become a recording studio. Our motto “Making something, out of nothing” helped us produce high level content even when we didn’t have the means to. Our creativity and resources is what has made us a valuable asset to our community. We are able to help venues that normally rely on foot traffic connect to their audience through digital media.
We partnered with numerous Pittsburgh venues some of which were newly opened, still renovating, or developing ideas on how to use their property. After many businesses closed due to COVID we began partnering with established venues safely using their locations to support Pittsburgh artists aligned with their mission. The process of filming is collaborative, allowing artist and business owners to network while producing all content. Empty Space Project’s platform increases artists’ and businesses’ visibility by giving them hundreds of organic visits to their website and social media.
Since building vacancy impacts neighborhood value, breathing life into empty spaces with art is a step toward change.
