Revolutionize how artists collaborate and create change by granting them access to underutilized properties and using digital media to capture their creative process.
Empty Space Project is artistic activism. We help minorities initiate change in communities by transforming underused real estate into communal creative spaces, merging art with local businesses to foster community connection, engagement, and growth. We are a media platform based in Pittsburgh, PA showcasing artistic ability and reimagining underserved spaces by turning empty properties into creative outlets capable of producing art.Our unique approach to community development elevates artists and their work while renewing life in forgotten spaces and paving paths for collaboration and revitalization.
Empty Space Project was founded in 2018 and has partnered with numerous Pittsburgh venues to support over 20 Pittsburgh artists. Bringing artists into communities aligned with their mission increases community engagement and connects artists to at least five new creatives at any given production, enhancing opportunities for collaboration and success. Content filmed and shared on Empty Space Project’s Youtube channel increases artists’ visibility by giving them hundreds of organic visits to their website and social media.
Since building vacancy impacts neighborhood value, breathing life into empty spaces with art is a step toward change. Using buildings under renovation allows us access to unique and engaging spaces at no cost, giving equal opportunity to artists regardless of background or financial status.
